Now that we have the legal stuff out of the way, let's talk BEER!

I have done quite a bit of research on this topic for my personal knowledge and thought, why not share this!?

Some of the beers listed below I have tried and I will comment my own opinion. I encourage leaving your favorites in the comments section below!

I will be putting the word "healthy" in quotations because the statements I have made below have not been regulated by the FDA. I will also include the calories of each beer along with the alcohol content of each.

1

Guinness

Calories: 126

Alcohol content: 4.2%

This beer I have tried. I am not a fan of bold, dark beers but this beer is definitely one of the popular choices for the celebration of St. Patty's Day! This beer does have a rich, bold flavor and is packed with antioxidants. This beer is claimed to be one of the "healthiest" beers you can consume, according to Livestrong.

2

Rolling Rock

Calories: 120

Alcohol content: 4.5%

I have not tried Rolling Rock, but other articles claim that this beer goes down light with a crisp taste. This is a Missouri-brewed lager and a non-light domestic of choice for health conscious drinkers.

3

Abita Purple Haze

Calories: 128

Alcohol content: 4.2%

Again, I have not tried this beer. Men's Fitness claims that this beer is brewed with fresh raspberry puree and is added after filtration supplying this beer with nutrients and vitamins. Otherwise described as a raspberry infused wheat beer with 11 carbs.

4

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Calories: 175

Alcohol content: 5.6%

This beer is for those of you who enjoy the hoppy taste of beer. As for me, hoppyness is not my forte so I have not tried it. This beer is a pale ale, but does contain more hops. With that being said, this beer has a higher content of polyphenols which is an antioxidant that lowers cholesterol and fights cancer. Be sure you do get the standard edition in order to enjoy all the benefits this beer has.

5

Peak Organic Winter Session Ale

Calories: 150

Alcohol content: 5.0%

This beer is described by others to be warm and toasty, especially on winter nights (hints the name). If you are organic frenzy, this is your beer. This ale comes from a Maine-based brewery and can be found in Whole Foods or higher-end beer distributors. I have not personally tried it, but this winter is already looking better with this beer in my hand.

6

Traditional Bud Light

Calories: 110

Alcohol content: 4.2%

If you are from the South, then I do not have to explain this beer to you. But for those of you that have not tried this beer, it is a popular domestic with a smooth, crispy taste. I am from the South so I have tried this beer. Although it is not my favorite light beer, it is at the top of my light beer list.

7

Sam Adams Light

Calories: 119

Alcohol content: 4.3%

For those of you who prefer a light import, this is your beer.

With a nutty complex flavor, it is light on calories and heavy on hops. Guess if I have tried this one...

8

Coors Light

Calories: 102

Alcohol content: 4.2%

This is another crisp lager with a fizzy and refreshing taste. Definitely the beer of choice on a hot summer day. I have tried this beer and I would agree with the previous statement (even though I wrote it, LOL).

9

Beck's Light

Calories: 64

Alcohol content: 3.8%

If you are trimming down the calories, this is your beer (don't believe them when they say you can't have your cake and eat it, too). This beer is one of the lowest in calories, but also one of the lowest in alcohol content. (FYI: The lower the calories, the lower the alcohol content.) I have not tried this beer, but it is described by others as a light lager with a crisp taste (see the trend here??).

10

Corona Light

Calories: 105

Alcohol content: 4.1%

HELLO SUMMERTIME. This beer screams the beach. I have tried this beer and it is on the favorite's list, especially for beach vacations. Top it off with a lime and you have yourself a light and refreshing lager.

11

Heineken Light

Calories: 99

Alcohol content: 3.3%

Coming in with just short of 100 calories is the famous Heineken Light. Actually I don't know if it is that famous, but it sounded good so we are going to go with it :) I have not tasted this beer, but it is described as a light premium lager with a malted barley taste.

12

Miller Light

Calories: 96

Alcohol content: 4.2%

Y'all... (see, told you I am from the South) Guess how I am going to explain this beer. Same as your other light lagers with a slightly different taste. Throw a lime on it and call it a day!

13

MGD 64

Calories: 64

Alcohol content: 2.8%

Light. Crisp. Lager. No further opinions.

14

Bud Select

Calories: 99

Alcohol content: 4.3%

Budweiser did it -- a beer under 100 calories! But hey, it's a light, crisp lager. I have not tried this one, but I am going to assume it will taste just like the rest.

15

Michelob Ultra

Calories: 95

Alcohol content: 4.2%

Now we are talking! This is my absolute favorite light, domestic beer... Livestrong would describe this beer as a light lager with flavor. I would agree.

16

Magic Hat #9

Calories: 153

Alcohol content: 5.1%

I have actually never heard of this beer until I was doing my research. This beer is described as not quite a pale ale, but sweet. The sweetness has to do with brewing this beer with real apricots. Apricots are rich in iron which helps to regulate cell growth and strengthen the immune system. Apricots are also full of potassium which can help lower blood pressure.

17

Ballast Point Wahoo Wheat Beer

Calories: 120

Alcohol content: 4.5%

Wahoo is in the name so I am assuming it has to be good. Livestrong describes this beer as a Belgian-style ale with a refreshing, tangy flavor. This flavor comes from orange peeling an coriander. Because this beer is made with wheat, oats and barley, it would be a great choice for after a long run or hard lift because of the anti-inflammatory properties. Can't wait to try this one!

18

Amstel Light

Calories: 95

Alcohol content: 3.5%

Named "The Official Beer of the Burger" by Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival in 2013, this beer has a full, whole grain taste. Looks like I'll need one of these the next time I order a burger!

19

O'Fallon Hemp Hop Rye

Calories: 165

Alcohol content: 5.5%

This beer is claimed to be an American amber (or red ale). Hints the name, this beer has a nutty flavor because it is brewed with toasted hemp seeds. Hemp seeds are known to lower blood pressure, be heart healthy and be a great source of vitamin E which helps to boost immune function, according to Livestrong,

20

Yuengling Light Lager

Calories: 98

Alcohol content: 3.8%

Welcome to the dark side of light lagers. This beer is packed with flavor while still low on calories. This is my go-to fall beer.

21

Porterhouse Oyster Stout

Calories: 156

Alcohol content: 4.6%

If you have never heard of this before (like me), you're probably thinking exactly what I was thinking when I heard the name. Wuuuuuuut? Give me a second to explain. Although I have not personally tried this beer, Livestrong explains that this beer does not have a fishy taste (despite what the name says). This beer is brewed with fresh oysters at Ireland's Porterhouse Brewing Co. Oysters are full of vitamin B12, iron and zinc. AKA, this beer is definitely on the "try list".

22

iki Yuzu

Calories: 135

Alcohol content: 4.5%

Here I go with these crazy names again, I know. Yuzu is a far east citrus fruit that is known for its lovely fragrance and sweet taste. This is a spiced beer that is brewed with green tea leaves and Livestrong claims that this beer as a unique taste (yeah, no shit...) with a high content of antioxidants. Nope, I haven't tried this one either, but I would say that if you are a fan of citrus fruits (exotic, that is) and green tea, this would be your beer!

23

New Planet 3R Raspberry Ale

Calories: 160

Alcohol content: 5%

I can already tell you I will be trying this. This beer is a sweet ale and certified gluten-free. This beer is also full of antioxidants and is made with real fruit. This beer is brewed from a Colorado-based company and this company donates a portion of the sales to a non-profit that encourages recycling. Livestrong describes this beer as a well-balanced ale from fermented sorghum, fermented corn, raspberry puree, orange peel, hops and yeast.

24

Tangerine Wheat Fruit Beer

Calories: 165

Alcohol content: 5.5%

This beer is brewed in Lost Coast Brewery located in Eureka, CA. It is a fruity, wheat beer (hints the name), but it is brewed with natural tangerine flavors. A few more calories than some listed, but a lot higher alcohol content than other listed as well. I have not tried this, but I am a fruity girl so we will put it on the "to try list".

25

Any domestic with fruit

Calories: varies slightly

Alcohol content: varies slightly

I am adding this category because if you have noticed from all the beers listed above, those brewed with fruits provide more benefits than just a buzz. Most of these fruity beers spring up at the beginning of summer because they are refreshing and crisp, also providing antioxidants and taste.

This does it for my list of best beers for fitness. Whether you are cutting calories, trying different diets, getting a summer or winter body, there is a beer for you.

If I have not listed a beer that you believe is "healthy", please comment below. If you have tried one (or all) of these, let me know!

Again, please drink RESPONSIBLY!

As always,

xo

Stacie
